About Cholmondeley

Cholmondeley is a residential facility in Canterbury, South Island caring for children, aged between 3-12 years, both in the short and long term. These children come from homes where serious pressures exist such as poverty, addiction, illness, abuse or neglect.

Cholmondeley strives to provide a warm, loving and secure environment for these children, regardless of the duration of their stay. Cholmondeley has been caring for Canterbury’s Children since 1925. We are proud of our ability, not only to provide first rate care for our children in residence, but also to provide essential outreach services for families, positive parenting programmes, and our vision to be the leader in foster care in New Zealand. Each year Cholmondeley provides 8,000 bed nights for children in need.

Cholmondeley has a professional and highly trained staff, all of whom are relentless in their dedication and commitment to making a real difference to the lives of the children in our care, and their families.

Usually around 80% of referrals are from Christchurch, the rest coming from wider Canterbury and other South Island provinces. There is currently a waiting list.

Cholmondeley is striving to be part of the solution when it comes to breaking cycles of poverty, abuse and violence in New Zealand and in doing so provide the hope of a better future for our nation’s children.
