Holden Enthusiasts' Cruise for Charity 08

Sponsored by Blackwells Holden, this event was convened at the Canterbury Agricultural Park on Sunday 7th of September. The Cholmondeley Children's Home was the charity to benefit from the assembly of Holdens of all ages, models and colours on the day. This was the second year of the event and while the chilly easterly wind countered against a record turn out, the revenue gathered for Cholmondeley is deeply appreciated.

Cruise for Charity

‘4 Season in One Day’……legend but not purrfect!

Glossy-coated “cats” of all kinds lined up in Victoria Square for the Jaguar Drivers’ Club display on Saturday 27th September and the Cholmondeley Children’s Home was invited to come along and top up our collection boxes. The  cars were splendid, the owners and visitors admiring and generous but the wind    went through 360 degrees! And when the southerly arrived it wasn’t just the convertibles running for cover!

Cholmondeley is grateful to have been invited, for the money raised and the many warm remarks on our work.

Canterbury's Biggest Morning Tea

“Mad Hatters” morning tea “The Altrusa Club of CHCH”
Tea in Sympathy

The Cholmondeley Children’s Home staff, with enthusiastic support from local     media did more than ever to promote the Morning Tea promotion period – 13 to 19 July. Topping up Cholmondeley’s miniscule advertising budget, generous contra support swelled the awareness levels to high impact.

The print promotional support and press ads were prepared by event sponsors PricewaterhouseCoopers graphic arts team boosting that high impact straight off the pages of The Press.

We’re particularly grateful to The Press and Kate Fraser, Editor of the Zest  section who promoted the event by featuring Our Pat – the Home cook – her (by virtue of the children’s) favorite recipes and a competition for others’ “favorites”.

And added that was the weight of the NewsTalkZB and Classic Hits promotion to go in the draw for a morning tea actually home-baked by Pat. Hone scones, cream and butter, savories and sandwiches flew over Dyers Pass daily. (We hope the Cardiac Unit enjoyed theirs!).

As, as ever, many many individuals, groups, organisations and companies came to the party in their own particular way. We thank you all.

Registrations for this annual fund raising event were down around half of the number involved last year and yet income edged slightly above. Special thanks for PricewaterhouseCoopers for their sponsorship of the event, preparing the artwork….and the additionally generous donation from the staff social club.

Bikers have a Ball for Cholmondeley’s benefit

With big Harleys and big hearts the members of the East Coast Social Motorcycle Club organised the Bikers’ Ball, held at the (former) Addington Jail on Saturday 26 July... The Cholmondeley Children’s Home has received the proceeds in excess of $8,000.

The Club Executive report heart-warming support from many contributors and sponsors … to the point that they’re looking to run the Bikers’ Ball again next year.

The Cholmondeley Children’s Home Board, Management and staff thank Club members and everyone involved in this event as it represents an unforeseen windfall of income for the Home, especially at this time when budgets are so under pressure.

Thanks guys!!!
