Awhi Team

Cholmondeley doesn’t just support tamariki at the centre in Governors Bay, its’ Awhi Team also works alongside whānau in their own homes to give them a helping hand on their journey.

This could be to offer support with parenting, managing children’s emotions and behaviours, or setting up new habits or routines for whānau and their tamariki.

This team is made up of social workers, youth workers, a Whanau Ora Navigator and our Refocus Service.

  • Our Social Worker provides short-term interventions or solutions. These include offering advice or advocacy, agency referrals, in-home parenting coaching, emotion-regulation programmes for tamariki, and behaviour management plans for school or home.

They help guide whānau to create plans to manage issues as they arise, working towards long-term positive outcomes.

  • Our Whānau Ora Navigator walks alongside whānau Maori to help them achieve their goals. This mahi explores the different elements of wellbeing and is creative, holistic and unique to each whānau.

The focus of the navigator is to support whānau to create an environment where rangatahi and tamariki will thrive - creating a better future for everyone.

  • Our Refocus Team of youth workers and social workers provides long-term support to tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau or caregivers. They work with whānau over a number of years to achieve long-term goals.

Refocus supports and cheers on families who have lost faith in services, schools and agencies, and are experiencing complex issues including youth justice and truancy.

Refocus can help with youth development programmes, parenting coaching, education and community group opportunities, sustainable resource coordination, and enhancement of familial or community networks.

The focus of this service is to support whānau who want to make changes and provide opportunities for their tamariki and rangatahi.
